Lubbock Avalanche-Journal - Tech to test siren, TechAlert systems

Texas Tech will test its siren and TechAlert emergency notification system between 10:50 and 11 a.m. Tuesday. The sirens will sound for one minute and can be heard from 4,400 feet away, according to the university. Officials upgraded the system to include two new sirens. Tech uses the sirens to alert those on campus of a weather emergency, such as a tornado. The TechAlert system alerts of emergency situations as well as class cancellations and delays. Students, faculty and staff can update their cell phone, text and e-mail information at www.ttu.edu/emergency.
