Texas Tech University’s Parent and Family Relations in conjunction with the Texas Tech Parents Association will offer buses to transport Texas Tech students who wish to travel home during the Thanksgiving holidays.

Three charter buses have been organized to carry students to and from Lubbock during the November break. Local chapters in Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth have helped with the recruitment and promotion of this travel activity.

“Getting students home for Thanksgiving is important and this effort will connect students with their families in the DFW and Houston areas at an affordable price in a safe environment,” said Ken Gassiot, associate director of Parent and Family Relations. “Texas Tech parents’ chapters in the DFW and Houston areas have been very helpful in getting the word out to families about this initiative.”

Buses will depart Lubbock, Nov. 25 and return to Lubbock Nov. 29. The cost is $100 roundtrip, and buses have designated stops in Arlington and Houston. Parent chaperones will be riding to and from Lubbock to assist students. Seating is based on availability and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information and registration, visit the Tech Parents Thanksgiving Bus Trip Web site.

Parent and Family Relations works very closely with the Texas Tech Parents Association to create an environment for parents and families that encourages involvement, interaction and support for Texas Tech.

Unfortunately, we had just purchased Thanksgiving plane tickets for our freshman son at a huge cost to us. I still wanted to let you all know how great this is for the university to do. I am very thankful for this service to the students and families even though we cannot use it this year. I would have loved it!!

Why can’t we get a bus to San Antonio? Have requested several times? Or can’t the bus to Houston make a stop in San Antonio?

  7. Ashley Says:

Finally a service! I have been driving from Houston to Lubbock for the last four year, and (of course) my senior year Tech implements this! :) Great idea!

I do think more buses would be necessarily, perhaps an Austin/San Antonio bus? Making a stop to San Antonio and then onto Houston would possibly be awful, especially on a charter bus.

  8. Margi Says:

Thanks for doing this! And a huge THANK YOU to the volunteers who will be on the buses too!
