Lubbock Avalanche-Journal - Tech fiesta encourages higher ed

With a Texas Tech fiesta, university officials hope to deliver a message to Lubbock-area youths. “Your future is so bright, you need shades,” Tech Vice President of Faculty and Undergraduate Affairs Juan Munoz said, referring to a university program of the same name scheduled for Saturday morning. To prepare for their bright futures, area students will receive sunglasses – as well as encouragement, inspiration and information about attending college – during the university’s Back to School Fiesta, he said. The event will last from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Tech’s Student Union Building. Munoz said the fiesta is designed to introduce children and their families to the educational and professional opportunities offered by education, as well as the degrees offered at Tech.
