Students rate their own universities based on academic, social and campus life.

Founded in 1923, Texas Tech is located on the South Plains of West Texas and carries the distinction of being the largest comprehensive higher education institution in the western two-thirds of the state of Texas with 150 undergraduate, 100 master’s and 50 doctoral degree programs.

Texas Tech University is nestled in the heart of West Texas and offers 150 undergraduate, 100 master’s and 50 doctoral degree programs.

Texas Tech University is one of the best colleges and universities in the West according to The Princeton Review. The university is featured on the company’s Web site in 2010 Best Colleges: Region by Region.

The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges in its 2010 Best Colleges Web site. For the project, the company uses several criteria including asking students to rate their own schools on several issues – from accessibility of their professors to the quality of the campus food.

“It’s flattering to be ranked in this survey, especially when the opinion of our students is considered so heavily,” said Guy Bailey, president of Texas Tech. “This is an excellent institution that offers students a solid education in a wide variety of fields while also providing a marvelous college experience in terms of student organizations, social life and major conference athletics.”

The Princeton Review is a New York-based company known for its test preparation courses, books, college admission and other education services. It is not affiliated with Princeton University and it is not a magazine.

“We chose Texas Tech and the other terrific schools we recommended primarily for their excellent academic programs,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s vice president of publishing. “We selected them based on institutional data we collected from several hundred schools in each region. We also take into account what each school’s customers – their students – report to us about their campus experiences at their schools on our 80-question student survey.”
