The Journal of Pearland - Fashion and business skills vault Thomas to the top
Considering the current state of the economy, with unemployment at a 26-year high, retail sales down nationwide and the recession expected to remain into at least 2010, it isn’t the best time for college seniors on the verge of launching their careers.
Ashlee Thomas, however, is an exception.
The 21-year-old Friendswood High grad and Texas Tech senior leads the mark program in sales and has fared so well selling beauty and accessory products on campus she recently landed an internship at Marie Claire magazine in New York City.
Thomas, like other mark Reps, sells makeup and fashion accessories through eBoutiques and at networking parties that they set up on their college campuses. She earns a 40 percent commission on beauty product sales and a 25 percent commission on fashion.
