Graduate student Heather Morris will serve on the nine-member governing board for a one-year term.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry appointed Heather A. Morris as student representative to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Morris, a graduate student in public administration, is the first student from Texas Tech University to serve on the coordinating board. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 2003 and taught high school English in Crosbyton before returning to pursue her graduate degree. Morris is a full-time staff member in the Office of Research Services at Texas Tech.
“I am extremely honored to be selected to serve on the Higher Education Coordinating Board,” Morris said. “I am very excited about representing university students as we set higher education policy for the state.”
“We are very proud of Heather and know she will add value to the work of the Higher Education Coordinating Board,” said Chancellor Kent Hance.
Per statute, the Governor appoints one student in Texas to serve on the nine-member governing board for a one-year term. Morris replaces Charles “Trey” Lewis, III from the University of Houston Law Center.

Heather Morris is my oldest sister.
Her experiences are indescribable.
She is the most brave, and most
reliable person I know. She is amazing.
She is easy to get along with,
and makes any room glow with joy.
She is a very sprite and ripe person,
whom has a beautiful soul.
I am so proud of her,..
she will do miraculous things.
