Texas Tech University was recognized for its continued commitment to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Jan. 21 at the Club Level of Jones AT&T Stadium.

Bill Farney, executive director of UIL at Austin, presented an award for Texas Tech’s continued support in hosting athletic and academic UIL activities.

“The event celebrates the university for all it has done for UIL participants over the years,” said Treva Dayton, director of academics at UIL.

Lynn Elms, director of UIL at Texas Tech, said the university has served as a host for regional UIL events for more than 50 years.

The luncheon also recognized Texas Tech professors, Lubbock Independent School District faculty members and Visit Lubbock for their help in hosting UIL events in the community.

“Without those people who give their time to administer a test or help at an athletic event, we couldn’t be successful at Texas Tech,” Elms said.

The UIL was created by The University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to public school debate and athletic teachers. UIL is celebrating its 100th year this year.

Lubbock city officials and LISD representatives were on hand for the celebration.
