David J. Schmidly provided leadership, vision and passion for Texas Tech University during his tenure as president and as vice president for research and dean of the graduate school. His first concern was always doing what was best for Texas Tech.

Dave’s decision to accept the position of Chief Executive Officer and President of Oklahoma State University provides an opportunity for himself and for OSU. It opens the door for Dave to take on more responsibility as well as to lead a university, its components and a health sciences center. For OSU, it provides an opportunity to benefit from Dr. Schmidly’s ideas and vision for higher education in this country.

Under Dave’s watch, we have seen Texas Tech set records in overall enrollment, freshmen enrollment and in student SAT scores. We have increased the presence of Texas Tech into the Hill Country and into other areas of Texas. Texas Tech will miss his leadership, his energy and his vision. All of us at Texas Tech wish him the very best.
